back to where i started

I finally decided that I needed a proper website again. Blogger was great for a moment, but ultimately, I needed a space to showcase my books and other work. The great thing is I can still blog on here! It’s been a few years since I last used WordPress. The first time I used it, I was in high school, and the interface, surprisingly, hasn’t changed all that much from the last time I used it (several years ago). Editing this theme was more of a learning curve for me, especially because it uses something called Kadence blocks which I’ve never used before. It definitely makes customizing your theme much easier and I like that it doesn’t look like your typical WP theme.

I may tweak this theme some more over the days, but everything feels right for now. I’ll also be challenging myself to blog about other things. I’m not sure who will actually read my blog (more than me haha). Though, I do have hope that I’ll find a blogging community again, especially with people’s lack in interest with social media these days. I honestly believe blogging is the way to go. You can do shortform, longform, just post pictures and/or videos, whatever you want. There’s no doomscrolling and getting overwhelmed by consuming different posts in a short amount of time (the fact that you can go from a happy post to a gory post to a sad post in seconds is crazy). Our brains need a rest from time to time. Blogging allows you to slow down and really soak in someone’s post.

Also, social media just isn’t good for longform posts. A chunk of folks don’t spend time reading extra long captions, let alone anything more than a paragraph it seems these days. If I wasn’t running a small business, I would have gotten rid of my social media accounts by now. But alas, Mealea Collection isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, so I might as well make the most of my social media presence. Despite my current feelings about it, I do thank social media for allowing me to connect with so many cool folks and the opportunities that came along with it. I don’t take any of that for granted. Just like any social media platform though, they won’t last too long, but blogging will!
